An Emergency Assistance Plus family membership provides critical protection for you and your loved ones. Let’s review exactly who is covered under a family membership: The individual named on the valid EA+ membership, for whom we have received the appropriate membership fee, is considered the member. Under family memberships, additional family members who meet the definition of spouse or dependent(s) to the member are entitled to all member services. Spouse includes the member’s spouse or domestic partner, unless they are legally separated. Domestic Partner means a person with whom the member resides, are in a committed relationship with, and can show evidence of cohabitation (including the shared responsibility of basic living expenses). Dependent(s) refer to the members unmarried children from birth through age 18; or through age 22 if enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school; and children whose support is required by a court decree; or adult child(ren) or grandchild(ren) with mental or physical disabilities who are solely dependent for maintenance and support. Children include biological children, stepchildren and legally adopted children. They must be primarily dependent on the member for support and maintenance and must live in a parent-child relationship with them. Spouses and dependents have access to all EA+ services when traveling with the member or independently, provided the trip does not exceed ninety (90) days.

Emergency Assistance Plus ensures that you are getting the care you need during a medical emergency - or we'll evacuate you to a hospital that can provide the appropriate care.

• Emergency Medical Evacuation via ground or air ambulance, if deemed medically necessary, to get you to a more appropriate hospital if your current facility can’t properly treat your medical condition.
• Medical Specialist sent to you if your condition can’t be evaluated by phone, you cannot be moved and local treatment is unavailable.

If you face a medical emergency while away from home, one call will activate 24/7, comprehensive emergency support. Once you’re admitted to the hospital, here’s what happens next:  

• Using the emergency phone numbers printed on the back of your EA+ membership ID card, call us.
• You’ll receive intake forms from one of our U.S.-based assistance coordinators, which you and the hospital’s attending physician must fill out. These forms aren’t mere bureaucratic protocol. Instead, they ensure that we receive all the pertinent information to better understand your situation and your needs. Because of that, these forms must be completed and returned to us before we can provide any transportation services.
• Once those forms are received, the EA+ Medical Director will review the paperwork, then consult with your attending physician to ensure that the hospital can provide the specific medical care that you need. Should we deem that you need to be transported to a different hospital, EA+ will make all the necessary arrangements, including reserving you a bed at the closest capable facility and lining up transportation to that new hospital. (If your situation requires immediate transfer to a different hospital and the admitting facility has already made those arrangements, we won’t interfere, as expediency is crucial in these instances.)
• When the time comes for your discharge from the hospital, EA+ will arrange your transportation. If your condition has improved enough to return home, we’ll arrange and provide commercial airfare with as many as two nurse escorts, if necessary. Should you need additional medical care, and your condition doesn’t allow for commercial travel, we’ll provide for you an air ambulance (if deemed medically necessary) to a qualified rehabilitation center nearest your home.
• If you experience a medical emergency while on a road trip and your condition prevents you and everyone else in your traveling party from driving your vehicle home, Emergency Assistance Plus will provide a family member, friend, or a professional driver with one-way, economy airfare to the location of your vehicle so that they can return your vehicle to your home.

*Should a medical emergency occur, it’s imperative that you first call 911 or seek medical attention immediately. (EA+ will always be there for you, but it does not act as a first responder. Additionally, most EA+ services only take effect after you or your family member have been admitted to the hospital. Visiting the Emergency Room does not qualify as being admitted. The services outlined above represent the services of an EA+ Essential membership. You may be eligible for additional services, should you enroll in the EA+ Premier plan.
